When I walked into my first Tampa Metropolitan Youth Orchestra rehearsal as a coach, I didn’t expect to feel so immediately at home. But between the passionate young musicians, the energy in the room, and the shared love of great music, I knew I’d found something special. I’m thrilled to officially join the TMYO staff!
From the Stand to the Circle
As a longtime performer and educator, I’ve spent countless hours behind the music stand—on both sides. Whether I’m conducting, playing an instrument, or coaching young musicians, my goal is always the same: to foster connection, creativity, and confidence through music.
TMYO embodies that mission in every way. It’s not just about playing notes—it’s about giving students a voice, a stage, and a safe space to grow as both artists and people.
Why TMYO? Why Now?
Because it matters. Because these students are the future of music. Because I believe in the power of ensemble playing to change lives—and I want to be part of that process from the inside.
Many years ago, I was in the Pinellas Youth Symphony and I have very fond memories of those times. I learned so much in my first full orchestra experience. A few important things to know, I was not a good bassoonist. I was third chair out of the three that auditioned. Since there were were opportunities in the percussion section, I was able to play piano and mallets there in addition to the bassoon. This full orchestra is an experience most students don’t get until college due to many factors. I’m grateful to be a part of the journey of these students.
Joining the staff gives me the opportunity to not only share my experience, but to learn and collaborate with a team of dedicated professionals who inspire me every week. It also means more time to cheer on my students, celebrate their wins, and help shape the next generation of musical storytellers.
What’s Next?
I’ll be working directly with the woodwinds, coaching sectionals, supporting rehearsals, and doing a healthy amount of behind-the-scenes strategizing. (And yes, I’ll probably have a Blackwing pencil in my hand at all times.)
If you’re a student, parent, music educator, or supporter of TMYO, I can’t wait to meet you! Let’s make music together and make some unforgettable memories along the way.
