Saints & Sinners: My First Concert with the Carrollwood Winds

This November marks a new beginning — for me, and for the Carrollwood Winds. On Sunday, November 2, 2025, at 3:00 pm, we’ll take the stage at the Carrollwood Cultural Center for Saints & Sinners, a concert that explores the light and shadow in all of us.

This will be my first concert as the new director of the Carrollwood Winds, and I couldn’t be more excited. Over the past few months, I’ve had the joy of getting to know this ensemble — a group of dedicated musicians who come together simply because they love making music. They come from every corner of the Carrollwood community and beyond, bringing their talent, warmth, and humor to every rehearsal. It already feels like home.

The Music

Saints & Sinners is all about contrast — the push and pull between virtue and vice, grace and mischief, reflection and joy. You’ll hear the uplifting strength of Howard Hanson’s Chorale and Alleluia, the haunting beauty of Frank Ticheli’s Amazing Grace, and the dramatic storytelling of Carol Brittin Chambers’ Flight of the Ravens.

There are moments of lightness, too — music that dances, teases, and surprises. Together, these works form a musical narrative that moves from darkness to redemption, reminding us that even in our most human moments, beauty always finds a way through.

A Personal Note

Directing this concert has been a reminder of why community music matters. It’s not just about the notes — it’s about connection. Every rehearsal has been filled with laughter, focus, and that shared spark that happens when people make something meaningful together.

As a longtime performer and educator, stepping into this new role feels like a natural extension of what I love most: creating spaces where music brings people together. Whether you’ve been part of Carrollwood Winds for years or you’re hearing us for the first time, I hope this concert leaves you feeling inspired, moved, and maybe even a little transformed.
